What is ceramic fiber primarily made from?
Ceramic fiber is a man-made vitreous fiber primarily composed of alumina (Al2O3) and silica (SiO2). The raw materials are melted in an electric arc furnace and then spun or blown to create fine, interlocking fibers, resulting in a wool-like material with exceptional insulating properties.
Is ceramic fiber safe to handle?
Like many insulation materials, ceramic fiber requires careful handling. Freshly manufactured fiber can be irritant to skin, eyes, and the respiratory system. Kaxite Seals recommends using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and dust masks during installation. Once installed or treated with binders, the fibers are locked in place, significantly reducing exposure risks. It is classified as a "Note R" material in some regions, meaning it is considered a potential irritant.
How does ceramic fiber compare to traditional refractory bricks?

What does "classification temperature" mean?

It is not the recommended continuous use temperature.
